Melting Teapot Simulation in Fume FX.

In this tutorial, I'll try to simulate the melting of a teapot, using Fume FX. This demonstrates the usage of texture maps as a fuel generator in Fume FX. Please note that this scene is modeled in 3DSMax 2010 so you will need this version of the software to open the project files. Anyway if you follow the tutorial you can complete it in any previous version of the software. Go to the bottom of this page to download video tutorial and project files.

Tutorial Length 13:54 min.

Fume FX & Final Render Sub-Surface Scattering.

This tutorial is a continuation of the candle light tutorial. The wax material used in that tutorial doesn't have subsurface scattering, so we need to find an alternative to achieve this effect. This is more about Final Render than Fume FX, but it's important if you want to have SSS with Fume FX. Please note that this scene is modeled in 3DSMax 2010 so you will need this version of the software to open the project files. Anyway if you follow the tutorial you can complete it in any previous version of the software. For the materials you need Final Render.

Go to the bottom of this page to download video tutorial and project files.

 Tutorial Length 14:41 min.

Candle Light Simulation in Fume FX.

In this tutorial, I'll try to simulate candle light, using fume FX. This is a very simple scene. Please note that this scene is modeled in 3DSMax 2010 so you will need this version of the software to open the project files. Anyway if you follow the tutorial you can complete it in any previous version of the software. Go to the bottom of this page to download video tutorial and project files.

FumeFX Thinking Particles Operators.

In this tutorial I’ll try to show how you can use the FumeFx Thinking Particles Operators - FumeFx Birth and FumeFx Follow. We export the FumeFx velocity channel and we use it in thinking particles to move the particles acordingly to the motion of the smoke. This is a very simple setup. Go to the bottom of this page to download video tutorial and project files.

Tutorial Length 20:10 min.

Thinking Particles Operators Used in this tutorial: (O)FumeFx Birth, (O)FumeFx Follow, (O)Standard Shape, (O) PPass, (C)Time Interval.

Hello!
In this tutorial we will make an explosion and then we’ll change some parameters to see how these changes affect the look of our animation.
Some of the settings we'll change are Fluid Mapping Yes/No, Light Multiple Scattering Yes/No, Smoke Color, Burn Rate, Density, Heat Production, Source Temperature. Find the download link at the bottom of this page.

Beginners guide - Getting started with FumeFX PDF Print E-mail

This tutorial is for beginners in FumeFX and tries to explain the way it works and the tools it has. By the end of this tutorial you will be able to understand the way FumeFX manage the simulation and to create a simple fire. You can download the video tutorial (8 minutes) and the project files from the bottom of this page.

What is Fume FX?

FumeFX is a gaseous fluid dynamics simulator that creates fiery effects in 3ds max. FumeFX operates on an 3D Grid off Voxels. Volumetric Pixels.

Fluid gases, such as fire and smoke, do not have a set size or shape. The FumeFX simulation is a combination of fuel, temperature, smoke, velocity and external forces, such as gravity, wind or solid objects. Their values are defined in each voxel of the FumeFX grid. These combined parameters will determine how your simulation behaves.

Fume Fx Properties PDF Print E-mail

The FumeFX UI Floater Window is your main command center for creating and controlling effects with FumeFX plug-in. It is a modeless, floating dialog box that contains a wide range of controls, which are logically organized into a toolbar and five tabbed panels. To access this window: select a FumeFX object in your scene; click on the 3ds Max Modify icon; and then, select the FumeFX UI button to toggle it open.

I've done some tests on the most important properties to see how each affect the look of the fire. This tests are intended to save you some render time by reducing the number of tries, if you have a clear image in your mind about how your fire should look like. You can download the animated version from the link at end of this article.
